It already feels like weeks/months ago that we were on vacation, but we just got back last Monday! As promised in my catch-up post on Friday, I owed you a little more detail about just how Mike and I made workouts happen when on vacation.
CJ got in his strength training too!
My husband and I purposely didn’t plan much for the first 4 days of vacation. We knew that we would be really busy once our friends and my parents came up for the second half of the week so we kept it really low key for the first half of our vacation.
Mike and I took turns getting up early with Connor while the other person slept in. Three out of four of those days I went to the track and when I came back it was Mike’s turn to go train. Although we didn’t spend time together in the mornings, it was nice to actually have some alone time and it felt really great to stay active. By getting our workouts in during the early part of the day, we were able to enjoy the afternoons and evenings together as a family.
One of the track workouts I did was really fun! Check it out and give it a whirl.
Once our friends were in town, I didn’t want to miss much time with them so I just did a few quick 30-minute running workouts (hill sprints one day and jogging/sprinting another day) while the kiddos were napping.
What are your tips for squeezing in workouts on vacation with kids?

Amanda, that track work out looks brutal/awesome! I was traveling solo with the babe, so as soon as he was down for the night (by which I mean, down for maybe two hours if I was lucky), I quickly ran through a conditioning work out in my Mom’s backyard! Tough, but since my Mom was at aquafit, that inspired me to do my part!

Jaya – that is so awesome that you squeezed in a backyard workout. You’re my kinda gal! ๐ Is he a tough sleeper? ๐ Sounds like your mom is a healthy woman too! Awesome.

We just got back from vacation and OH MY GOSH fitting in workouts was so hard!
We were at the lake so I did some swimming. I’m also training for a half, so I had some mandatory runs to do. The fact that we were in the mountains made my runs hilly, but also helped me not feel so guilty about the extra vacation calories.
Kudos for running while the kids were napping — that was like holy time on our vacation (with 3 kids under 2) for putting our feet up!

Sounds like you still managed to get your workouts in one way or another. Many nap times I was reading (something I never do at home since there is always work to do, blogging, cleaning, cooking, etc.) but a few times I knew that just taking 30 minutes to run would make me feel so much better!

I agree with Lisa – that picture is adorable! We do something similar on vacation – we take turns working out in the morning or during the kids’ nap. We try to fit it in though because I know that it makes us both a bit more able to handle our vacation!!
Amanda Perry says
HA…yes I noticed that we were both in such better moods after we each had a little time alone to workout. ๐ Helped us to really be able to enjoy family time and stay patient!

OMG could that picture of CJ and Mike be any cuter?!?! He looks so excited to be on the monkey bars. Love it!

He is so excited about life in general. I’m so blessed with a happy little guy. ๐
