Happy Halloween! I hope you have a wonderful day filled with fun, candy, movement and all the pumpkin flavored things. I’ve got you covered on what to do when you eat too much candy so you’ll be all set tomorrow.
I see it every year. Halloween is the start of a season that gets people all riled up nutrition-wise. You know there is going to be candy everywhere. Not just today…but for weeks to come while everyone brings their leftovers to the office. And then it’s Thanksgiving. You’re already stressed about how to navigate the next few months, aren’t you?
5 Steps to Take When You Eat Too Much Candy
…or overindulge in anything and probably feel like garbage. Why are they called treats when they make you feel so yucky? 😉
- Calm the heck down. Stop beating yourself up because you can’t change what’s done. Get over it, move forward and relax. Stressing about what’s already done ain’t gonna help a damn thing.
- Remember, that candy wasn’t the last candy you’re ever going to eat. If you’re reading this you live in a world where candy is readily available. You CAN have candy whenever you want, not just on Halloween. You may want to CHOOSE not to have it all the time. {<—good idea} but just remembering you can might be helpful. It might help you avoid the eat it all right now because I’m never going to have it again once it’s out of this house syndrome. Yes, it’s a real syndrome. 😉
- Don’t deprive yourself starting tomorrow. Resume your normal eating routine. When you deprive yourself of food and nutrition, it almost always contributes to helping you stay stuck in binge-restrict cycle.
- Move your body, but remember exercise is not a punishment. You don’t need to burn off the calories you just ate. Start to look at exercise as something you GET to do, not something you HAVE to do. Whatever way you move your body, make sure you enjoy it. If it feels like punishment, try something else. Enjoyment is key to staying consistent and staying consistent is number one when it comes to reaching your goals.
- Learn something. If you feel like garbage, what can you do a little better next time you’re surrounded by all the sugary things? It likely doesn’t mean avoiding all parties and social situations or even swearing off candy and sugar for the rest of your life. Just focus on doing one thing better next time. Even if that means eating 5 “fun-size” candy bars instead of 10 next year.
I hate those infographics that show you how long it takes to burn off a certain type of food, usually junk food. Around this time of year they are mostly pics of candy. Then they’ll turn into pics of pies and stuffing in about a month. Honestly, who cares? You don’t need to earn your food or burn your food off after it’s eaten. This mindset tends to lead to serious yo-yo dieting for life. Gag, right?
Bonus: here are two kettlebell workouts I think you’ll enjoy should you choose to go ahead and treat yo-self with a little movement.
2 Spooky Kettlebell Workouts
Note, these include some advanced kettlebell exercises so if you’re a beginner they might not be a great fit for you. And if you just finished eating all the candy…maybe digest and sleep it off before you try one of these workouts so you don’t hate me. Enjoy!
1. Halloween Kettlebell TGU’s & Snatches. No, I didn’t eat too much candy before this. In real life it was muuuuuch slower.
2. Kettlebell Flow from Jen Comas of Girls Gone Strong. I tried a few rounds of this before I did what’s above and it felt so great. Nice combo!
Have fun and remember, relax!
