Susan over at Real Life Travels does this these posts called What I Learned This Weekend and I had to copy her today. Lately, I feel like I am always learning new things about myself (and about my son).
- I’m tired. I got in bed on Friday night at around 8:30, read for a little bit and then passed out. Apparently I woke up screaming about getting stung by a bee? I don’t remember that at all…and no I was not drinking on Friday night.
- Teaching kids how to drink out of sippy cups is much harder than teaching them out to drink out of a bottle (at least in my experience!).
- I stink at shopping these days. I used to be so much better at it. I knew what I liked and was great at finding deals. These days when I shop I find myself feeling so lost. I don’t even know what stores to start at unless I’m looking for t-shirts or workout gear. I was dress shopping for a few hours on Saturday and must have tried on 100 dresses. You know what I came home with? Salsa from Target. Yes, that’s it.
- Toys are great, but sometimes kids just want to play with paper or napkins.
- Connor loves the gym. We took him there on Sunday morning while we worked out for a little bit. He loves having extra space to crawl around. You can see a quick video here on facebook
…but we missed the best part when he was holding onto the back of my calves and walking with me! Too cute.
What was the best part of your weekend?
PS…if you haven’t seen it yet, Sistas of Strength is now on Facebook. Come say hi! ๐
Brittany (Healthy Slice of Life) says
Hailey is much better at a straw than a sippy. Maybe try one of those? Connor is so cute!!
Amanda Perry says
I think the first ones we tried with a straw were too hard. I could barely get anything out!! We did get another kind this week and everyone else seems to be saying they had a lot more luck with the straw ones too. We’ll give it a whirl. We have a few that he seems to be getting now. ๐

The best part of my weekend was taking my daughter to the Red Sox game on Sunday. It’s too far and few between with our busy schedule that I actually get 1-on-1 time with her and I cherished every moment of it! It reminds me I need to make sure we do it more often!
Amanda Perry says
Awwww Jody you must have had so much fun!!! ๐

Awesome post!
I remember those beyond-exhausted days of early parenthood. I’m glad I get my sleep these days, but in some ways I miss the amazing leaps and bounds they make at that age!
And yeah, kids sometimes love the funniest things. My oldest’s first Christmas was spent playing with all the wrapping paper for at least a week afterwards. She couldn’t get enough of it. By the time she was sitting up on her own she had discovered the wonders of the Kleenex box. Pull one out and magically, there’s another one! She would end up in a virtual cloud of tissues surrounding her. All our tissue boxes ended up being restuffed so that you couldn’t actually use a new, uncrumbled tissue. She had pre-crumpled it for you!
Then she moved on to band-aids. These became such a big hit that to this day, birthdays and Christmas presents are still very often a variety of band-aids.?! Cute for sure, but she’s in 4th grade now ๐
Enjoy this as much as you can for as long as you can! I’m somewhat envious ๐

Love your comment, Paul. I have been really trying to soak in every minute of being a new mom (can I still call myself that after almost a year??). I can’t believe how quickly things change around here. Lately, I have been letting him snooze on me a lot more than I did for awhile…I know these days won’t last forever. ๐
Paige @ Running Around Normal says
Aww, love the sippy cup picture!
I spent time with my brother – always a highlight ๐
Amanda Perry says
Awww brother sister time is a good thing!! ๐
Christine @ Love, Life, Surf says
Love the video! He’s such a cutie and a good workout for both of you! ๐ Sippy cups are a pain. It’s took forever for my kids to figure out how to use them and to tip their heads back. I also wished that someone would have warned me about all the parts that you have to clean! I love that we can buy the nicest and fanciest toys for our kids but they still just want to pull all the tissues out of the box.
Amanda Perry says
HA…yes there are a lot of parts too. He really just wants to play with anything we have. Remotes, keys, cell phones, spoons, etc.
Erica says
Sippy cup took 6 months to master!! When Steven finally got the hang of it I switched him to a straw cup!! That was also an experience but now he has that down pat and loves it!! And I just keep telling myself he won’t got to kindergarten ________ (fill in the blank with whatever he’s not doing now!!)
Amanda Perry says
We’re getting there…but it makes me feel better that everyone else had issues too! ๐
jobo says
awww!! SUCH a cute video (saw on FB!) and it sounds like a great weekend…I never thought about the sippy cup thing, I bet that is actually really hard! Sort of like teaching them to blow their nose?? (okay, I just saw Jess’s comment and kept mine the way it is – but legit, we literally just wrote the same thing, didn’t we?! CREEPY). ๐
Amanda Perry says
You two crack me up. ๐ Tell you what…it took about 3 seconds for him to learn to eat (obviously…look at the pics of him), but the sippy cup is taking awhile. We’re getting there!!
Jess says
OMG I LOVE that video!! What a fast mover he is, huh? So stinkin’ cute!
PS I never thought about how hard it would be to get a kid to drink from a sippy cup, such a different thing to teach someone, huh? Same goes for blowing your nose and showing them how, I’d imagine??
Amanda Perry says
Don’t get me started on the nose thing. It’s like I am trying to murder him when I try to wipe his nose. No idea when that will end. lol
Colleen C says
That video is awesome! My son would LOVE all that crawling space!! We let him roam free in the back yard yesterday and he was in heaven. Great post!
Amanda Perry says
It’s great for him and great for us because it gives hims some extra exercise and wears him out! ๐ (usually…)
Robin says
I hated teaching my daughters how to use the sippy cup. I probably bought 10 different sippy cups before we found one that worked for us. Now I need to train myself to trust my 5 year old to never use that sippy cup anymore.
Amanda Perry says
We have a ton of different ones. He’s finally getting the hang of a few of them. Phew. ๐ ๐
