{Two Things Tuesday Vol. #5}
Oh, patience. It’s something we’d all probably like a little more of. Hell, somedays I wish I had an IV of patience. I can’t provide that type of miracle, but I can help you see that there are so many reasons to be patient with yourself as you move through this crazy life.
It’s a new season and we’re all going through lots of change. You’ve probably lost your patience once or twice…a day. 😉
Enjoy today’s TWO THINGS TUESDAY. Don’t forget, if you’ve been reading something you think I’d love and should share here, please let me know!
Be Patient With Yourself and your kids.
“Patience is the ability to count down before you blast off.”
1. Be patient with your kids. Change is hard. If you were to scroll through the back-to-school pictures on any parent’s phone, I can pretty much guarantee there are plenty of non-perfect photos on there too. If not, they’ve been deleted already.
Parenting is hard and it’s easy to get frustrated with your kids for being grumpy, whiney or, basically just not living up to your expectations.
As my BFF pointed out to me, kids are strong and amazing. They have to go into a room full of many and/or all strangers when they start school. And, unlike our adult parties, which generally include plenty of cocktails, they have to do this stone cold sober. And then show up the next day and do it again.
Adjusting to change is tough. Following rules is tough. Making friends is tough. Be patient with your kids and with yourself as a parent. We’re all still learning. Life is an incredible journey, isn’t it?
2. Â Be patient when it comes to achieving your health and fitness goals. Weight loss, fat loss, strength goals, running…you get the idea. These things take time. You didn’t get the way you are right now in one day. The way you look and feel right now comes from a combination of your genetics and about a million choices you’ve made throughout your life. Every second of every day.
When you think about it that way, it makes a bit more sense why improving your health and fitness takes so damn long too, right?
Ready to get moving again? Start by setting a realistic workout schedule doing exercise you actually enjoy. Take into account what life season you’re in and what else you have going on. If you’re caring for littles and parents and working full time, what’s realistic and sustainable for you? If it’s one solid workout and a walk a week that might just be BETTER than what you’re doing now. Start there. #strengthstartshere
When it comes to improving your diet, small changes really are the big changes. Don’t force yourself to makeover the entire way you eat at once. It’s not sustainable. Period. And, please don’t eat foods you hate. Instead, make one doable substitution, like making breakfast at home instead of grabbing a bagel on the way to work, and keep doing it over and over and over again. If it feels too easy to make a real difference, it’s probably just right. At least for now.

Have patience and realize that all good things take time. Learn to pair your determination and sense of urgency with your ability to pace yourself and you will succeed. Decide when it’s appropriate to go all-in, push yourself hard or make a damn decision. Have patience when you need to dial things down a little bit if that is what keeps you going.
Hope this helps put some things into perspective and restores a little of that patience that’s gone MIA for you today.
Have a great week!
Amanda
