I love long weekends. In a perfect world there would be 1 or 2 long weekends a month. I think that would be just enough to appreciate the extra day without taking it for granted. ๐
With the 3-day weekend ahead and nice weather on the docket people are smiling. Enjoy it. Life is happening all around you right now. Take a break from your work, whatever that may be, and have some fun. Spend some time thinking about what you’re thankful for. Tell the people around you that you love them. Recharge.
And guess what? You can do all of this without completely destroying your progress when it comes to improving your health and fitness. With lots of cookouts and fun plans there are sure to be plenty of temptations. I heard a commercial this morning about how you can get all of your ‘necessities’ for a long weekend at Walgreens and then they listed chips, ice cream, soda, hot dog rolls and probably a few other things I can’t remember. Hmmm…I wonder why people automatically associate cookouts and long weekends with eating crap!
But, I digress. These cookouts and temptations are not a problem for you, girls. You can handle the social scene and have a great time, but have a plan. If you don’t think there will be any healthy food around, offer to bring it. It might be easier to stop and pick up a box of cookies at the bakery, but why not take a few minutes and cut up some veggies to make a salad? Or why not buy some fruit, cut it up and put it in a bowl? That’s always a hit.
Just remember to keep a balance and don’t beat yourself up if you eat something unhealthy. Make the next meal a good one. Drink loads of water. Get a few workouts in. Maybe you won’t want to hit up the gym in the nice weather,
but get outside and run around. Do some pushups and bodyweight squats. If you have a kettlebell, swing it. Make me proud.
We are definitely planning some dinners out and a cookout with friends and family at the lake, but my husband and I are also planning a hike (more like a sprint with us) up to the top of a beautiful mountain and at least one kettlebell workout. It’s all about keeping a balance!
What’s your stay-fit secret for long weekends?

Awesome idea Amber! That way you can accept a few drinks …and go for sparkling water with fruit (GREAT IDEA!) in between.

Definitely bringing one entree to outings that I know is good for me to eat. Often I'll bring sparking water with lemon or lime as well so that I'm not getting drinks foisted on me every time I turn around! ๐
