Step 1: Incorporate some lean protein into each meal.
Step 2: Follow your workouts with a shake.
In order to get everything you can from your workout you have to replenish your body with a combination of protein and carbs to ensure recovery. After your workout (preferably within 30 min) is a key time to have some protein. I have started doing this over the last year or so (very consistently over the past 6 months) and I’m really happy with the results. I, like most women, was not getting nearly enough protein!
I know when it comes to some people I am wasting my time even typing this, but I dare you to just try it. Try it for a month. Get some protein powder and have a shake after every workout. This is all part of the theory that if you eat foods that are good for you, work on timing what you eat properly, and stop worrying so much about calorie counting you will feel better and be happier. 😉
Protein Powders:
I have a new favorite. It’s BSN Lean Dessert Protein Shake Fresh Cinnamon Roll. I bought it on Vitacost, but there are plenty of other places you can get it. One scoop with some skim milk or almond milk (or even just water) is delicious.
Other good Protein Powders:
EAS Premium Protein Powder
Muscle Milk Light Protein Powder
there are tons more. Read the labels, try a few out and find some that you love.
Some recent studies say that it’s good to mix up the types of protein powders you use. Although I have no research or proof on this, I do think variety sounds good
so why not try a few different brands and flavors? 🙂 (If you already have a favorite or find any great ones, please let me know!)
