Tuesday was a rough day for my little man. He got his 2 month immunizations and although he did really well at the doctors, a few hours later he wasn’t acting like his normal, happy self.
It was obvious he just didn’t feel good. π We called the doctor and she told us to give him some Tylenol. It helped quite a bit and fortunately he got a good night sleep. Hopefully he’ll be back to normal in no time. My poor little monkey.
The good news about his doctor’s appointment is that he is healthy and growing at the perfect speed. He eats a lot more than other babies his age, but the doctor said he may just have a fast metabolism or burn more calories than other babies. That wouldn’t be shocking considering who his parents are. Check out thisΒ video on Facebook of Daddy teaching Connor how to squat. If we’re not friends friends on Facebook we should be. Reach out and say hi!
Speaking of workouts from Connor’s daddy…
It was time to start my new workout program yesterday morning. I finished my first month of a strength program designed by my husband on Monday. Wednesday it was time to start a new (somewhat similar) program. I walked downstairs feeling a little tired and worried about my baby, but got the motivation I needed from this note on the whiteboard in our basement. π
As much as I want to hate him when I’m doing the workouts, they are getting me stronger than I have ever been before and he has been so super supportive and motivating. I’m lucky to live with an amazing strength coach. Even trainers need trainers sometimes. π
Here’s the workout I did today. This was VERY hard, but I felt so great afterwards.
Highlights were:
- 4 unassisted chin ups
- Deadlift (w/barbell) 145lbs for 1 rep
- Goal is to get to 200lbs (deadlifting 200 pounds that is…not getting my body weight to get to 200 pounds :))
- Goblet Squats with double 14K bells (2 sets of 4) which is pretty awesome once I thought about the combined weight
I will do an update post like I did when I finished one of the workouts in my first program so that you can see how much mt strength progresses doing this workout for one month.
Here’s the whole workout:
Please note that this is a very advanced training program and not for beginners. It took me a long time to get to the point where I can train like this. You can get here too. In college all I did for exercise was run every day…can we say cardio queen? I look better and weigh less than I did then. More proof that lifting super heavy weights does NOT make you bulky. Hear that ladies? π
Turkish Get Ups 3×3
- 10K Kettlebell
Barbell Deadlift Β Β (5 reps,4 reps,3 reps,2 reps, 1 rep (increase weight for each set))
- 95LB x 5
- 115LB x4
- 125LB x3
- 135LB x2
- 145LB x1
Dumbell Chest Press Β 5×5
- 35LB Dumbells
Heavy Goblet Squats Β (8 reps, 8 reps, 4 reps, 4 reps)
- Double 12K kettlebells for sets of 8
- Double 14K kettlebells for sets of 4
Kettlebell Swings 10×10
- Double 10K kettlebells
Chin ups (Grease the Groove w x4)
- No assistance – yay!
There’s not a ton of volume on any of the above lifts , but it’s all heavy and HARD. I’m really enjoying these programs and I am already stronger (at least in my legs) than I ever have been in my life after just a month. (Not to mention this is less than 10 weeks after giving birth!
How do you get motivated for a hard workout? Do you have someone in your life who helps motivate you?

I can’t do chin ups for the life of me! maybe one day. Connor is getting so big! That video is adorable and I love the note. It’s amazing what a few words can do!

I didn’t used to be able to either, but now they are one of my favorite exercises! π If you do a ton of them with the band (assisted) and just keep building up, doing one assisted becomes a lot easier. Then when you can do one at a time just do them randomly throughout a day or workout and you’ll get even stronger! π

Look at you go! I have a supportive husband as well – it certainly helps, especially with a newborn! It’s so important when you have a partner who gives you some time to take care of yourself. It really is a team effort. Tonight is my turn to run! Also, it allows him time to bind with the bean.
Congrats on your wonderful family! What a great motivation to stay healthy and set a wonderful example for your son.

Thank you! It does make such a difference to have support from your hubby and also from other family/friends. π Hope you had a great run tonight!
Congrats to you as well on your family. I checked out pics of your sweet little girl today and she is just beautiful.

Thanks! I think she’s a cute little peanut, too. Btw, you’ve inspired me to dust off my kettlebell π
