As requested here’s the recipe for Grilled Pizza.
You can either make your own dough or purchase some at the store. Check the ingredients…some are filled with lots of crap you don’t need.
I’ve taken to making my own. It doesn’t take much longer and you know exactly what’s in it.
Dough Recipe
Mix together:
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cup of whole wheat flour
- 1 packet of undissolved Fleischmann’s rapid rise yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- Italian Seasonings (basil, oregano…really any combo of seasonings)
Add in:
- 1 cup of very warm water (120-130 degrees)
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
Mix everything together until it forms a ball of dough. Place on a floured counter and knead for 6-8 minutes.
Cover with a clean towel and let sit for 10-15 minutes.
Assemble and Cook the Pizza
- Stretch or roll out the dough to desired thickness and brush one side with olive oil.
- Place dough on a lightly oiled cookie sheet (preferably one with no edge so that you can slide it right onto the grill)
- Place the dough olive oil side down on the grill for about 3-5 min (depends on your grill…just watch the bottom).
- Remove from the grill and put olive oil on the other side of the dough.
- Flip the dough over so the olive oil is on the bottom and put the toppings on the cooked side.
- Place pizza back on the grill for another 3-5 minutes.
…Cut and Enjoy!
Some excellent toppings:
- Leftover grilled chicken (if you like it spicy, mix it with some Franks Hot Sauce)
- Steamed Broccoli
- Sautéed Onions and Peppers
- Grilled veggies (I like summer squash and zucchini, but you could really use any veggies!)
- We’ve tried a bunch of sauces, but this is my favorite: Victoria All Natural Marinara (it’s much lower in sugar than many pre-made sauces)
Tips:
- Go easy on the cheese and use lower fat versions (fat free cheese doesn’t melt well).
- Be careful when transferring the dough/pizza from the pan to the grill. It’s easier if you have two people, especially for the first few times or you might lose your toppings. 🙂
