Disclosure: I received a pair of Jabra Sport Wireless headphones from the company. I was not compensated and all opinions are my own.
I have been meaning to write this post for a few weeks now and I figured why not use a Friday to share a fun fitness-related find, right?
I think sometimes people assume personal trainers, gym owners and anyone who works at a gym can {and wants to} workout all day long. Let’s just say that’s not the case. There are days when we aren’t motivated either. It can be really hard to focus when you’re trying to train at work. There’s always something to clean or paperwork to be done. Emails need to be sent. Phones need to be answered. Bills need to be paid. You get the idea, right?
I started to find that my workouts were taking several hours out of my work day on Wednesdays and Fridays because I was getting distracted with work or having conversations during my training sessions. So what is a busy gym owner and/or personal trainer to do when she wants to train, but is having a hard time focusing?
My new answer: wear headphones.
Training time for me is non-negotiable. If I don’t train regularly, I’m not as happy and I’m not as nice to people around me. That said, I don’t have a million extra hours in my day to train so I have been really trying to make better use of my training time, and really my time overall.
When I put my headphones on I find that it helps me to ignore the side conversations between other trainers and clients. I generally love the music we play at our gym so I never thought to use headphones, but now that I have been wearing them I’m getting my workouts done more efficiently.
Since these headphones are wireless and have bluetooth capabilities, I have been putting on my favorite Pandora stations (Country Fitness, Jeremy Camp, Breaking Benjamin and more all-over-the-shop stations) based on my mood and what I’m doing for training each day. By focusing on music and training instead of everything else, my workouts are getting done much faster these days.
As far as the headphones themselves, I was a little unsure that they would work the way I wanted them to since our gym is now fairly big and I wanted to leave my phone in one spot instead of carrying it around with me. I’m finding that if I put my phone towards the middle of the gym, I’m good-to-go most of the time.
As a bonus, if someone calls, my phone rings. I don’t usually answer since I’m trying to focus and get my training done, but it’s good for me so that I know if daycare calls! (Obviously I would NOT ignore those calls!)
Overall, I’m really pumped about these headphones. I haven’t used them for running yet because I don’t have an armband for my phone, but if you do, I think they would be great. No wires dangling and/or sticking to your sweat while you pound the pavement sounds pretty appealing, right? Plus if you use an app like Map My Run, you would hear when you’ve reached your mile marks and your time.
Have you ever worn wireless headphones? How did they work?
What’s your get-it-done secret for finishing workouts when you are easily distracted?
