It’s hard to believe that this weekend my husband and I will celebrate 2 years of marriage. I am truly blessed with an amazing husband who challenges me and constantly makes me a better person.
I have heard that the first year of marriage is the hardest, but that was a complete breeze for us compared to this past year. Anyone who knows us is aware that it’s been a tough year all around and many things happened in our lives that were out of our control. The fact that we had each other (and some amazing friends and family) to lean on through some of the tougher life challenges has made us stronger in our marriage, in our friendships and as individuals. And as a side note I am not worried – I love 3’s and 7’s so this upcoming year (#3) will surely be a great one. 🙂
The best advice someone gave us before our wedding was this:
Don’t forget to actually step outside with each other and literally say outloud, “This is our wedding. Right now.”
I am really excited to see where life takes us. My husband and I share a lot of the same dreams and aspirations, but we’re trying to focus on the things that are in our control right now, versus worrying so much about the things that are out of our control or may happen in the future. Generally speaking, if you focus on behaviors (which you can control), the desired outcome will fall into place.
I was chatting with my sister earlier and I was trying to explain that sometimes it’s important to take a step back and think about (and enjoy) what is happening this second, this minute, this day, etc. instead of worrying about what is going to happen 5 years from now. It’s easy to focus way too much on the future and forget to take in what is happening in the moment and what is in your control today.
Think about this as it relates to your own life. Are you so wrapped in the ‘what if’s’ that you don’t make time to enjoy what’s going on in the present moment? Are you so worried about long term goals/outcomes that you convince yourself you don’t have time to change the behaviors you are doing right now to actually achieve what you want?
Don’t waste another second worrying about how you’re going to lose that weight, eat healthier or have more fun…it’s just wasting time that you could be actually doing the things that will get you to your goal. At the very least, go for a walk or run while you’re wasting all that time stressing about it!! 🙂
[…] Last year I posted that I knew year 3 would be a good one. I had no idea that so much would happen and that we would start a business and start a family all in the same year. I am even more excited for this coming year. I can’t wait to meet our son and become a family of 3. I’m so looking forward to seeing where Skill of Strength takes us. I want to learn new ways to grow in our marriage and in our Faith. Life is good. […]
