I had a crazy busy/productive day yesterday and I just kept thinking how people would probably think I was nuts if they watched me at my house all day. My son was at daycare and I was working, but on breaks from working I buzzed around. I unloaded the dishwasher, did two loads of laundry, made myself lunch and roasted some veggies for dinner. Sounds time consuming, right?
Wrong.
When I have CJ with me it’s kind of like having a ticking time bomb (and I mean that in the nicest way possible) as my sidekick. I know that he’ll only be happy playing on his own for a certain amount of time or will only sleep so late or can only handle sitting in his stroller while I run errands for so long. You get the point.
Basically, I’m used to having my little man with me and when he’s happy doing his own thing it’s like something goes off inside of me and I have to get things done as quickly as possible.
Things I do much faster now than before I was a mom include:
- Folding laundry
- Emptying the dishwasher
- Grocery shopping (although the trip itself probably takes longer with the loading and unloading of CJ and constant stopping to pick up toys, bottles, etc. as he drops them)
- Clothes shopping (if I even go at all)
- Running errands (remember my money-saving tip for Target trips?)
- Making dinner
- Eating meals (need to work on this and slow down)
- Working out (efficiency has become key)
Man, now that I think about it, it’s no wonder I have been crashing so hard at night. I’m doing everything at sprint speed all day long. And yes, CJ crashes too (thankfully)!
Moms, has becoming a mom made you move faster as you bust through daily to-do lists?

Yes, yes, yes. I was nodding my head during this whole post ๐

HAHA…I would think most moms would be. If not I want to know their secret. ๐

I dobt think we’re on the same level but I kind of understand. I really just wanted to comment that CJ is so adorable!
Amanda Perry says
Mama…you have your own challenges. You have been on your own most of the time for the past 6 months. I don’t know how you do it!!

When my kids were under 2 – YES. Now that they are older, I definitely have more time to get stuff done and they are willing to help – but there are drawbacks. Usually I have to break up at least 2 fights and they are like walking tornados (thankfully, I learned that the tornados can be contained. Certain toys stay in certain rooms OR ELSE). I have to say becoming a mom has definitely help me manage my time (what the heck did I DO before kids?) and how to balance stuff (literally and figuratively – did you ever think you could hold a baby, a carseat, and 4 bags of groceries and get them all into the house at once?).
Amanda Perry says
OHHH that’s so nice to hear that it doesn’t always have to be this way. haha ๐ Love the discipline with keeping toys in certain places…I’m totally going to be like that. I’m sure neighbors have laughed at the amount of things I carry at one time. It probably looks like I’m going to drop my son, but I usually have it under control. LOL

Completely – I can speed through things now and fold a load of laundry in 5 minutes flat. And eating? I need to slow that down and it would be nice to actually enjoy a meal. CJ is getting so big!
Amanda Perry says
I think I have just developed more systems. I unload dishes the same way every time and fold laundry into specific piles. Totally have a rhythm for things now. Eating is definitely something I need to slow down for though. Must remember that. ๐

He is a cute ticking time bomb!! ๐
Amanda Perry says
Of course he is!! ๐

Ha! I’m not even a mom and I already feel like I’m always trying to jam so much into the hours I have in my day. I can’t even fathom jamming that all in on top of caring for a one year old! You amaze me!!
jobo says
Was about to say exactly what Jess did – shocking, I know ๐ You are incredible!!
Amanda Perry says
Shocking! You ladies had something similar to say? ๐ You’ll both be fine when you have kids. You’re already moving fast and fitting lots into your days. Once you are moms you’ll look back and feel like you should have had a lot of free time. haha
Jen says
Yes – I’ve deemed it “The Mom Mad Dash” The second the baby is asleep….I run around like a maniac at warp speed. ๐
Amanda Perry says
Love that. It’s totally the mom mad dash. It’s like I’m on speed during nap time and then he wakes up and it’s back to normal pace. haha
