Hands down, the most common question I get from women is “How do I get rid of my muffin top?”
Ladies, I have some bad news. All the crunches and sit-ups in the world are not going to rid you of the dreaded muffin top. In fact, if you sit at a desk most of the time, doing crunches may only make that muffin top worse. (Great read on this Rachel Cosgroves Blog: “The Secret Reason You Have a Pooch!” )
The only way to defeat that muffin top once and for all is to to decrease your body fat by fixing your diet and working out. You’ll need to work hard. Very hard. You’ll need to sweat and challenge your body. No more of those la de dah workouts on the elliptical where you can read a magazine and no more counting walking as your sole form of exercise. Strength workouts and interval training will rev your metabolism and help you to become a fat-burning machine.
You’ll need to eat healthy foods to fuel your body and cut down on eating junk food (note that I do not say eliminate…isn’t that good news?). Try to eat great 90% of the time and then you can splurge 10% of the time. If you do all of these things, you’re body fat will decrease, your muffin top will start to melt away and those ab muscles you have been working on will begin to make an appearance.
I had a great weekend workout-wise. Saturday I achieved my goal that I shared with you in an earlier post (Become a Viking). I snatched the 12K kettlebell 7 times for 80 rounds of Viking Warrior Conditioning. (560 snatches in the 40 min workout) I have been working on this once a week and looks like it is paying off!
Sunday my hubby and I went to the track and worked out together. We did the same workout we did a few weeks ago. 50 kettlebell swings and 1/4 mile run around the track 8 times. He did it in 27 min/ 50 sec and I came in about 20 seconds after him (man did he sprint on that last run!) 🙂
My next fitness goal is increasing the amount of pull ups i can do. I can currently do 4 consecutively. I want to increase to 7 and then perhaps to 10.
Happy Monday ladies…make it a great week!
