Okay, I’ve been holding out on you. 🙂
We had our ultrasound and found out that Connor will be a big brother to a baby BOY!!
He keeps asking when “our baby” is coming and I think it’s so stinkin’ cute.
Other second trimester FAQ’s…
(Read here for first trimester FAQ’s and first trimester workouts.)
How is your energy?
Man, it’s amazing to have energy back after that awful first trimester fog. I knew I felt like crap, but didn’t realize how nice it was to actually feel GOOD.
In other words, my energy is good! I still have days where I’m more tired than normal, but honestly it’s the middle of winter, we’ve had 4 feet of snow in the last week, I have a crazy 3.5 year old and we are running a business. I should have some tired days, right?
What are you eating?
I’m mostly back to my normal eats. I crave vegetables, eat a lot of eggs and still can’t get enough overnight oats.
I definitely eat a more food in general than normal and get some salty and sweet cravings. There have been a lot of tortilla chips in my life and we’ve gone to candy stores a few times recently at my request.
How are your workouts going?
Great. I actually have the desire to train most of the time again…no more forced/shortened workouts due to exhaustion.
I generally compete 3 strength training workouts (40-50 minutes) each week, 2 of which usually end with a 10-20 minute metabolic conditioning type of finisher. I usually complete 2 other workouts each week, one day I move and sweat and the other day I train higher volume/lighter weights, usually using kettlebells. I take 2 rest days each week, usually Tuesday and Saturday.
I absolutely love walking. I never feel like getting outside, but once I’m out there it feels so good and my hips are always happy afterwards. My FitBit seriously motivates me to keep moving. I never thought I’d be a “gotta get my steps” type of person, but here I am. 🙂
How much weight have you gained?
It’s really none of your business, but I know other moms and mamas-to-be like to know what to expect. (Keep in mind…we are all different and every pregnancy is different!)
I’m almost 21 weeks and I’ve gained about 10 pounds.
What type of clothes are you wearing most?
I get dressed 2-3 times a week in maternity jeans and a maternity sweater or a GapBody long-sleeve T-shirt <–my favorite maternity shirts!
Otherwise, I’ve been living in yoga pants (or sweatpants when it’s cold). I bought a few pairs of jeans and a few new shirts/sweaters. Otherwise, I’m wearing some things from when I was pregnant with Connor.
For work I’ve been wearing yoga pants and sweatshirts or these Lululemon Studio pants with either a maternity T-shirt or a regular long-sleeve or sweatshirt.
For training I’ve still been wearing a lot of my normal workout clothes. Pretty soon I’ll have to switch to bigger sizes/maternity workout tanks, but for now it’s working. Stay tuned as I have a review coming up later in the week and a giveaway for a great (non-maternity) workout tank! I’ve been wearing a size up from what I would normally wear and it’s been perfect for my first two trimesters.
Is it difficult/uncomfortable to work as a trainer now that you’re getting bigger?
It’s mostly great! I still love training and working with our clients. There are a few exercises I don’t demo, but for the most part I can still do everything I need to do. Sometimes at the end of a long day if I’ve been on my feet all day, I’m a little achey, but nothing crazy. Epsom salt baths help. 🙂
Do you love being pregnant?
I love that my body is capable of growing another human being. I love that CJ is going to be a big brother and that we’ll be a family of four in just a few months! I love feeling this little one kick. Yes, pregnancy is AMAZING.
However, I don’t love the constant worry and the stress that comes along with being pregnant. I wrote about this constant worry right after I had Connor. I guess I expected pregnancy the second time around to be way easier in that sense. In so many ways, it is, and I’m a lot more laid back about certain things. However, I’m still growing a baby. It’s not always easy.
With both pregnancies we’ve had doctors appointments that were really scary. We’re lucky there is so much testing available nowadays, but I’ll tell you from experience, when you’re waiting to find out if your baby is going to be okay, every minute feels like a year. Fortunately, all is looking good with our little man and he’s been moving and grooving during every ultrasound. Looks like pretty soon I’ll be living with three crazy-active males!
What do you miss most that you aren’t having/doing while pregnant?
I miss my flat chest. (Yes, seriously.) I miss really tough workouts. I miss wine, but not nearly as much as I thought I would. I do miss having a glass or two when I’m out to dinner with Mike or being social. I miss coffee more than wine. I have one cup a day, but sometimes really want that second…or third. I don’t eat sushi or blue cheese or deli meat when I am not pregnant so all of the “food” stuff doesn’t really bother me.
Let me know if you have other pregnancy-related questions! I’ll post next week more specifically about my second trimester workouts.
